Batting Cage

Twelve balls are bowled at you. Time the swing to score as many runs as you can.

About the Batting Cage

Batting is timing. In this event, twelve balls are delivered at different speeds, and each swing is scored by how close it came to the perfect moment.

How it works

The bowler stands at the far end, holding the ball, for a pause that varies from ball to ball. Then the ball is released and travels down the pitch towards the yellow line in front of your bat.

Tap to swing. You only get one swing at each ball. The game measures the gap between your tap and the instant the ball reached the line. Almost exact is a six. Slightly off is a four. Further off scores two, then one. Beyond that, you have missed, and the game tells you whether you were early or late.

If you do not swing at all, the ball goes through and you score nothing.

The balls do not all travel at the same speed. Some take over a second to arrive, and some little more than half that.

Twelve balls, and the most you can score is 72.

Scoring more runs

Judge the speed straight away. In the first fraction of the ball's flight you can see how fast it is moving. A quick ball needs a quick decision.

Watch the ball onto the line. Keep your eyes on the ball and the yellow line together, and tap as they meet.

Do not swing at the release. The varied pause before each ball is there to tempt you. Wait until the ball is well on its way.

Use the feedback. "Too early" or "too late" after a miss tells you which way to adjust.

Be content with fours. Trying to hit a six every time often produces a miss.

Stay loose between balls.

As HTML5 games about timing go, this one gives the clearest reward for being precise.
