Weightlifting

Hold the bar steady for four seconds. Then twenty more kilos go on.

About the Weightlifting

Weightlifting, in this event, is a test of balance. The bar is overhead, and it will not stay still. Keep it level long enough and the lift counts. Lose control and it is over.

How it works

The first bar weighs 60 kilograms. A gauge at the bottom shows how far it is tilting, with a yellow safe zone in the middle. The bar is constantly being pushed one way or the other by forces that change every fraction of a second.

Tap the left half of the screen to push the bar left, and the right half to push it right. Each tap is a shove, not a fine adjustment.

A timer bar fills over four seconds. If you get to the end without the marker reaching either end of the gauge, the lift is good. Twenty kilograms are added and you go again, immediately.

The heavier the bar, the stronger and more sudden the wobble. When the marker hits the end of the gauge, the attempt ends, and your result is the heaviest weight you completed.

Lifting more

Make small corrections early. The further the bar tilts, the faster it falls away. One tap when it has just left centre is worth three when it is near the edge.

Do not over-correct. Each tap carries momentum. Two quick taps to stop a lean will often send the bar off the other way. Tap once and watch.

Watch the direction of movement, not just the position. A marker on the left that is already drifting back needs no help.

Keep a thumb on each side so that you can react either way without moving your hands.

Stay calm when the weight goes up. The first second of each new lift is usually the hardest.

It is a different kind of challenge from most sports HTML5 games: four seconds can feel very long.
