Great Save

You are in goal. Get your gloves to the ball before it crosses the line. Ten shots.

About the Great Save

Most football games put you on the penalty spot. This one puts you between the posts. Ten shots are coming, and each will be struck harder than the one before.

How it works

Your gloves follow your finger or pointer anywhere inside the goal. A faint ring around them shows how far you can reach.

After a short pause, the ball is struck from the spot at the bottom of the screen. It travels in a straight line towards some point in the goal, growing larger as it comes. When it arrives, the game checks where your gloves are. If the ball is inside your reach, it is a save. If not, it is a goal.

The first shot takes about a second to arrive. Each one after that is a little faster, and the last few get there in half the time.

There is no guessing involved. You can see exactly where every ball is going. The only question is whether you get there.

Saving more

Start from the middle. After each shot, bring your gloves back to the centre of the goal. From there, no corner is more than half the goal away.

Move with the ball from the first instant. Its direction is clear the moment it leaves the spot. Do not wait to be sure.

Follow the ball, do not jump ahead of it. Because it travels in a straight line, keeping your gloves on its path will bring you to the right place.

Watch the wait. The pause before each shot varies, so stay ready.

On a phone, keep your finger on the glass throughout. Lifting it and putting it down again costs time.

On the fast late shots, small, quick movements are better than big sweeps.

Nine saves is gold. For reaction-based HTML5 games, it is unusually fair: every goal is one you could have stopped.
